How rankings work
Last updated: January 11, 2026
The goal
Shopineer is designed to be value-first: we try to surface items that are good deals for their performance and specs. Rankings are built from a curated “golden” dataset and a set of scoring rules.
Where the data comes from
- Primary product definitions/specs come from a marketplace feed (currently Newegg).
- Other merchants can contribute competing offers when we can match them to the same product (by UPC/model identifiers).
- Benchmarks (e.g. GPU performance) are mapped to normalized keys used by the ranking system.
Why some products don’t appear
- Missing or untrusted specs (we prefer strict, parseable specs over marketing blurbs).
- Unrecognized GPU/CPU identifiers (can’t map to benchmark keys reliably).
- Quality filters: we may downrank or exclude configurations that are poor value for the category.
What “value-first” means
We weigh performance signals (like FPS/benchmark tiers) against price and key specs (RAM/SSD/screen). The exact weightings vary by category.
